Law graduates are complaining about the fact that they are not getting the sort of employment that they desire. This is because law schools, especially the middle to lower-ranked ones, have misrepresented the employment prospects of those in the legal profession. So, why do they have to resort to misrepresentation?

To attract enrollees.

Law school can be a frightening prospect if you focus on the tuition, which could be as high as $50,000 a year. So, schools have to present legal jobs not only as lucrative professions but as jobs that new graduates can easily get. This way, prospective students will still brave the tough hours and high expense of law school.

To improve rankings.

When the
employment rate is presented as presented as high, the ranking of the school rises. Sometimes though, schools resort to deception. They even consider non-legal jobs when calculating for percentage of employment after graduation. This means that they consider even under-employed graduates as successes, which is inaccurate.

To keep the school afloat.

Schools sometimes have to resort to such measures to keep the school going. They will need a certain number of enrollees to keep them afloat.

Law schools that use misrepresentation may have their reasons but the real way to keep things afloat is to find a more honest way of attracting enrollees. This way, alumni will not be dissatisfied and threaten to sue.
